FAQ

General

When can I expect my order to ship?

Ready-to-ship items—e.g. earrings, necklaces, and rings that do not require resizing—will ship out within 1-3 business days. Rings that require resizing will be shipped within 7-10 days.

For custom projects, shipping times will vary depending on the scope of the project. On average, these items are shipped within 4-6 weeks.

What shipping carrier do you use?

We ship via FedEx or UPS 2-day Service and provide a tracking number for your order as soon as it’s on its way. All packages are insured and require a signature upon delivery to ensure your purchase is protected and safely delivered. It’s our pleasure to offer complimentary shipping for domestic addresses.

For our international clients, your order will be sent via UPS Worldwide Saver which arrives in about 3 business days. *Please see below for more information regarding international shipping fees.

What if my ring doesn't fit?

We offer one complimentary resize for engagement rings and wedding bands to make sure your forever piece fits perfectly. Please be aware: shipping both ways is the buyer’s responsibility.

For other rings, the cost for resizing starts at $95 and will be determined by the number of sizes it will need to go up or down for a proper fit. Please reach out to us for a quote.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Yes. Please see our return policy.

Can I see Porter Gulch jewelry in person?

Yes! We meet with clients at our showroom in Union Square in San Francisco by appointment only. Please contact us to set up a meeting and let us know what you are interested in seeing.

Do you offer engraving?

Yes, we partner with a talented local engraver who offers a variety of options. Please reach out to us for more information.

I love my ring but I am no longer engaged. Can you help me sell my ring?

Unfortunately we do not resell pre-loved rings but we are happy to partner with you to create a new design using the gems and precious metals from your current ring.

Are all of your gemstones ethically sourced?

Yes, we only work with vendors who ethically source their gems. It’s vitally important to us to uphold these standards within the fine jewelry industry and beyond.

Where are your gemstones sourced from?

We source gems all over the world! Many of our stones come from Australia, Nigeria, Madagascar, and Montana, USA.

Do I have a choice of using natural diamonds or lab-created diamonds?

Yes, the majority of our designs can be made with either natural or lab-created diamonds including the center stone. Feel free to reach out to us to confirm what type of diamonds the style you’re interested in can accommodate.

For a custom design, can I use my own gemstone or heirloom stone in one of your rings?

Yes, we are happy to work with any gemstones you already own!

It’s important to note that there is always a small risk associated with removing and re-setting gemstones. We will always handle your pieces with the utmost care, however Porter Gulch is not responsible for damaged gemstones.

I loved one of your one-of-a-kind rings but it sold. Can you make me another?

We can make you another design that is similar to the one you had your eyes on however, due to the unique nature of the stones we source, we cannot create an exact replica. That’s precisely what makes Porter Gulch Jewelry so exciting—nobody else will have the exact same piece as you!

If there is a one-of-a-kind ring you had your eyes on that has sold, please reach out to us about creating a similar design. Rest assured, there are so many magnificent gemstones in the world and we’re happy to find one that is just right for you!

Can you ship my purchase in an unmarked package to keep it a surprise?

Yes, absolutely. After submitting your order, please contact us to request a disguised shipping name on your package.

Do you do appraisals?

We work with a third-party appraiser and are happy to facilitate the assessment of your jewelry. The cost is $220 per piece.

How should I care for my Porter Gulch jewelry?

We recommend using an at-home jewelry cleaner or soft toothbrush with mild soap on a regular basis to keep your pieces sparkling clean.

For a deeper clean, you can also reach out to a local jeweler or use an ultrasonic cleaner. We recommend only doing this a few times a year as the process can loosen gemstones over time.

What is turnaround time for a custom ring?

You can read all about creating a custom design here (link page). Turnaround times vary, but on average take 4-6 weeks.

Can I purchase just a setting?

No, we create settings specifically for the stone(s) we source. However, if you already have a stone you’d like to use, we’re happy to create a setting for it.

Can I make changes to my design after seeing the CAD images?

Yes, you can make changes to the design up to the final approval. We’ll walk you through the entire approval process before we begin your custom order.

I need my ring done soon. Is there a way to rush the order?

Sometimes! Please reach out to us to see if we can accommodate your needs.

If it’s not possible to create a custom order on your timeline, our ready-to-ship collection is always stocked with lovely options.

Do you have payment plans?

We are in the process of adding a third-party payment plan option to our website. In the meantime, we’re happy to split your purchase into 2 to 4 payments to be paid within 4 months. Please contact us for more information.

Repairs

Porter Gulch designs are made to last a lifetime, but the delicate nature of fine jewelry may require a bit of maintenance over the years. In the event your Porter Gulch jewelry requires repair, there are a few options to get your piece back to mint condition.

  • We provide a 1-year warranty on all accent stones (under 3mm) and will be happy to set your design with a new gemstone free of cost during this period. Please note this does not include repairs to your design’s center stone. Also some gemstones are one-of-a-kind and we may not have an exact replacement.
  • For repairs outside of the 1-year warranty period or on your center stone, please contact us and we’ll be happy to send you a custom quote.

When sending your jewelry to us for repair, you are responsible for all shipping costs to and from our office. Please be sure to purchase insurance for your package and ask the courier to require a signature confirmation. Porter Gulch is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen packages.
